Work Summary

Position: Level Designer

  • Created gray box prototypes and scripted level behaviors in Unreal Engine 5 using Blueprint.

  • Collaborated with the team to create stealth gameplay focused on a unique 'stalker' type enemy.

Stalker Prototype Level

I took on responsibility for a ‘Resident Evil Village’/’Alien: Isolation’ inspired level focused on stealth and evading a singular, overwhelmingly powerful enemy. The objective was to create a tense ‘cat and mouse’ scenario. The main challenge was making a level centered on unproven mechanics and an enemy that was in a very early stage of development.

  • To prepare for gray boxing the level in Unreal 5, I wrote an initial level treatment, breaking the necessary story beats down into discrete moments. I then used Google Drawings to expand that initial level treatment into a 2D level map. This made the gray boxing process a lot smoother.

  • Designed a multilayered stealth level with multiple routes, vantage points and puzzles that tutorialized the unique mechanics of the level while maintaining an air of tension.

  • Tested and implemented new stealth mechanics via visual scripting in Blueprint.
